Tiger Skins

103. TIGER SKINS - An acrylic painting on a 20 x 28 size canvas board.

This painting was a private commission. I received a phone call one day from a client who asked me to do a painting for him based on the opening line of the story, "Bottle Party," by John Collier. It goes like this; "Franklin Fletcher dreamed of luxury in the form of tiger-skins and beautiful women".

Notice that my painting features a "woman," not "women," as stated in Fletcher's dream. For some men, one woman is not enough, they go through life behaving as if it were a man's duty, as a "man," to try to seduce every woman on Earth! - When I painted this picture I assumed that my client was not one of those men. I could be wrong, but he never called to complain . . .

Sometimes I'm asked by a client to paint a subject that has nothing about it that inspires me to want to paint it, but I had no problem at all getting inspired with this one. After all, the most inspirational thing in the whole universe is a beautiful woman. Isn't that why all art schools feature a nude woman posing on a dais in their art classes?
