Stephen King: The Shorter Works

177. STEPHEN KING: THE SHORTER WORKS - A black ink and gray pencil drawing on a 11 x 14 size vellum paper. It appears on the cover of a Starmont
Reader's Guide book published by Starmont House (Ted Dikty).

While I tend to stay away from Stephen King's longer works, I do enjoy reading his short stories. Perhaps it's because his shorter works are compressed down to essentials, leaving out a lot of unnecessary and over-written details that I find in his novels.

I enjoy reading a thought provoking science fiction novel, or a masterfully written fantasy epic, but because I am not a fan of "Horror" fiction I tend to keep my reading time on the genre to a minimum,. And that means selecting short horror stories to read rather than novels.

There are exceptions, of course, I recently decided to read Mary Shelly's "Frankenstein," and do not regret the time spent doing it. It is often referred to as the "first" true science fiction story!
