Mermaid's Treasure
181. MERMAID'S TREASURE - An acrylic painting on a 16 x 20 size canvas board, circa 1990. It was a private commission. The client requested a painting of a mermaid and left all the details to me.
I only accepted private commissions from clients who gave me a general idea of what they wanted, allowing me to do whatever came to my mind that fit their broad description.
I did not accept commissions from clients who wanted to send me photos of themselves and/or family members and include them in a fantasy or science fiction landscape.
However, I did work on one painting that involved a portrait of Helen de la Ree in a fantasy background and I goofed! The painting had been started by Virgil Finlay, and Gerry de la Ree asked me to finish it. I made a huge mistake by trying to blend my work with Finlays because I kept blending and blending until almost none of Finlay's work remained identifiable. It was a dumb thing for me to do, I know Gerry was disappointed.
