There was always the question of whether to surround a drawing with an elaborate decorative border, or with a simple line, or to have no border at all. The drawing itself usually determined which I would choose to do.
I usually added borders, as you can see on all my SFR covers. And in this case I extended top portions of the border into the drawing making it an integral part of the drawing.
