Iced On Aran - Frontispiece
426. ICED ON ARAN: Frontispiece - A black ink and black color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size coquille board. It appears as the frontispiece in the book, "Iced On Aran," by Brian Lumley, published by Ganley in 1992.
One of the early decisions I had to make on every project that I undertook, was related to the amount of decoration I would add to the artwork, if any. Putting decorative designs in a picture can double the time it takes to do it, so most illustrators don't do it.
But decorative designs can add something extra to the visual attributes of a picture so I used it whenever I had the time to do it, and if I though it was appropriate. This drawing could have been done without the leafy border and the icon at the bottom, I would have saved the time it took me to create the designs. But I'm glad that I always had the energy to do the extra work and not think in terms of saving time.
