Abe Merritt

492. ABE MERRITT - .A black ink and black color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size coquille board. It appears in the fanzine, "Outworlds" published by Bill Bowers.

This is one of four author drawings that I did for "Outworlds". Abe Merritt's fantasies were among the most popular stories written for pulp magazines like Argosy during the early 1900s. Novels like, "The Ship of Ishtar," "The Moon Pool," "Dwellers in the Mirage," "The Face in the Abyss," and "The Metal Monster".

They were all reprinted later, in the 1940s and 1950s pulp magazines like "A. Merritt's Fantasy," "Famous Fantastic Mysteries," and "Fantastic Novels". They have also been published many times in paperback form by Avon books, and in hardcover editions by various publishers.

Merritt's hardcover books sit on my bookshelves, I still remember the sense of wonder I felt when I read them so many years ago.
