When the Star Trek series began on TV so many years ago, I looked forward to watching the show, but as the series progressed from week to week I became less and less impressed by it and never became a "Trekie". I don't recall a single episode that had anything to do with the exploration of space in the Universe I know is out there.
They did indeed go "where no man has gone before," but no man will ever go where they went. In one episode for example; they discover a distant world on which a "human" looking young man with super-mental powers is able to kill you by just willing you dead. He turns out to be the spoiled child of some super-duper parents who exist somewhere outside the universe, and because he is mis-behaving so badly, they whisk him back to wherever they exist. I was insulted by such nonsense.
The stories never met my expectations. But, the wonderful creation of the Star Trek crew, with Captain Kirk, Spock and the other crew members, and the "transporter," carried the show to the popularity that it finally achieved. Lots of people enjoyed the series and loved the crew but I was never able to join them and be a part of that joy.
