160. FULL MOON - A computer painting, circa 2007. It appears here for the first time.
In 2004, John Betancourt, the editor of Wildside Press was planning to publish a uniform set of ten books written by Robert E. Howard, sub-titled, "The Weird Works of Robert E. Howard". They were loosely scheduled to appear one at a time over the coming years. I submitted pictures to him in groups of three, periodically, for a total of fifteen, from which he eventually selected the ten he needed.
This werewolf picture is one of those 15 that the editor did not select. I used my computer to create this picture by borrowing the "wolfman" from a painting I did for the book, "The Devil's Auction". I also borrowed the woman from a B&W drawing I did for a story, "Misericorde," that originally appeared in the magazine, "Sorcerer's Apprentice". I added color to her for this computer painting.
The reason why I "borrowed" from artwork that I had done in the past, (I did it for the entire series), was that the editor was in a hurry to get started on the project and he had a very low budget to pay for the ten paintings. After some thought I told him I would use my computer to clip and paste parts from artwork that I had done in the past, and do whatever else was needed to make them appear as new paintings. He said OK, so I went ahead and did the job. It took me an average of 10 hours to do each "new" painting.
